Library
We are looking to put a small library in the activity room at the Rankin Culture & Recreation Centre. We need someone to look into what is needed (type of shelves, books, computers, funding or grants, partnerships). If you are willing to help with this challenge please call Peter at 613-732-8417.
Special Ongoing Events and Projects
*Some of our winter carnival posters are becoming worn and yellowed. If anyone would like to volunteer to redo these over the summer please call 613-732-8417.
*Recently, it has been reported that some cities (i.e.. San Francisco ) are banning the use of plastic grocery bags, and if you drive up Woito Station Road you can understand why. As some of you know I (Marlyn Sauk) have experimented with making reusable bags from different materials including used baler twine and used grocery bags themselves. My best results are using plastic feed bags and I have revised my pattern to make them less stretchy. Once upon a time these feed bags could be returned to the feed store for a small refund to be reused but the government in all its wisdom has banned this. Now they are sent to the landfill and they virtually don't disintegrate. I would like to start a community project making these bags and am looking for crocheters to make them and also people to tear apart the old bags. This could be done at your own leisure. If we could build up an inventory perhaps we could turn this into a profitable venture at $2.00/bag or at the very least, use them ourselves to help make our community a greener place in which to live. Call me at 613-735-5938 if interested.
*We are looking for old china cup and saucers (fancy) for the Rankin Centre. If anyone has some they don't want, we would be happy to have them. Call Marlyn at 613-735-5938.
*We are still looking for items of interest for a time capsule. Contact Margaret Scheuneman 613-735-6306 if your have any suggestions or items to contribute. We are hoping to do this as soon as possible, so this is your chance to leave something to the future custodians of the Rankin Centre.
*You may have noticed a jar on the kitchen counter at the RCRC containing Canadian Tire Money. Anyone who doesn't use their CTC money and would like to put it toward a good cause can drop it off at the kitchen. We will be using it to buy kitchen supplies (i.e., crock pots, storage containers, pots, etc.)
*Please note that volunteers and donors are needed for every fundraising event. If you see an event you might be able to help with in one way or another, of if you have any ideas for events, please contact one of the following fundraising committee members to discuss: Marlyn Sauk 735-5938, Marlene Sauk 732-8417, Muriel Verch 735-0224. Thanks!
*If you are looking for a way to help out your Centre you might like the idea some folks have. We always need door prizes, silent auction gifts, carnival gifts for games, children's games, spot dances, etc. This is a good time to be picking up items on sale, and we really appreciate receiving them. It sure helps us out. If you have some to donate just call Marlyn 735-5938 or Muriel 735-0224.
